Best Kitesurfing Spots

Naxos has numerous beaches ideal for kitesurfing. Mikri Vigla is the most famous, featuring soft sand and clear blue waters. It’s popular with both local and international kitesurfers and is particularly safe for beginners as winds usually blow toward the shore. Other excellent locations include Glyfada, which is less crowded, Amitis, suited for experienced wave riders with their own gear, and Ayiassos, ideal when southern winds prevail. Weather & Wind Conditions

Naxos is famous for its strong and consistent winds, especially the Meltemi, a northerly wind that blows 20–25 days per month during summer at 4–7 Beaufort (11–21 knots). The Meltemi is intensified by the Venturi effect created between the Balkans and Turkey, and locally between Paros and Naxos, making the western coast particularly windy. Unlike many Mediterranean winds, the Meltemi is highly reliable, often blowing for several days before a short pause and then resuming.

With excellent conditions, professional schools, and stunning beaches, Naxos is one of Greece’s top kitesurfing destinations.
