Naxos Melanes Kouros Statue

The impressive Kouros statue can be found just outside the village of Melanes, nestled in the Naxian countryside.

The statue remains in its original location where archaeologists discovered it. Measuring approximately 6 meters in length, it dates back to the 7th century BC.

On Naxos, unfinished statues are often discovered near marble quarries. Workshops frequently created these sculptures for wealthy patrons, but during transport, some statues were likely damaged and subsequently abandoned.

Another Kouros, known as the Kouros of Flerio, is located roughly 200 meters from this site.
